♫Celebrate good times come on!

Guess who got a new job?  That’s right; this awesome nerdy girl got a new job at a fabulous place.  The people are great, the job is great, and I’m seriously using the word ‘great’ too much.  Everyone has seen a difference in my attitude since I started working at said awesome place.  (Come on you should know by now that I don’t put my jobs actual name in my blog!)  It’s much closer to home, which means I save mucho money on gas, and I do a variety of things including part of their marketing that involves social media (their blog, FB, Twitter, etc).  It’s actually a lot of fun, great experience, and the people are very patient when it comes to me learning new things about the company.   Getting out at 5pm and being home before 5:30 means I have a lot more time in the afternoon to do the things I love, like read, catch up on nerdy news, and most importantly, spend time with the most awesome husband in the world.
I’ve also finished two out of my four classes for the semester.  I’m sad the fiction writing class is over.  That was so much fun, and my professor was just excellent.  I think sometimes the people who hate creative writing class take it as the be all end all based on what the professor teachers instead of keeping an open mind, seeing things from a different view point, and being able to add things to their writing.  Creative writing classes and workshops are excellent in my opinion.  You can’t break the rules until you know the rules.

I’m getting off track though.  I’ve finished two of four of my classes.  I’m losing my 4.0, but I’d rather be challenged and learn than go through school in a breeze.  Maybe I’m just weird.  That’s okay.  It’s fun.
With this new job I’ll be able to catch up on my book reviews not only for my own site, but for I Read a Book Once.  The end of the semester just coincided with my old job driving me up the wall with stress.  It’s so nice to smile again.  It’s not worth being at a job you hate. Find something you love – or at the very least don’t detest with every fiber of your being.

That being said, tomorrow is Friday.  Be safe, enjoy your weekend.

PARTY ON NERDS!

Busy Nerd Week

Greeting and salutations nerds and nerdettes!  I’m scarce, I know, sporadic even, a once in a while blogger!  It’s insanity the way life eats up all our time so we can’t do the little things that we enjoy – like blog to an audience of invisible readers – who probably only exist in my mind.   Life has taken its toll with full time work and school.  We’re understaffed in my department which means I’m fiercely working to keep up with consumer demand, while also getting my school work done.  Not to mention that Brian has started his clinicals – which are so far away he has to be up at 3am just so he can catch the train and make it there on time and does not return home until 5:30-ish pm.  The dogs are not a fan of these schedules.  They let us know by pooping all over the house.  Spite – dogs have it.

In the book world, I have a long list to get through.  The first one that I’m almost done with – and will probably review for the hell of it, even though it’s not my favorite genre – is It Happened on the Way To War by Rye Barcott.  The writing itself is beautiful, eloquent, and definitely gives you a full picture of what’s going on.  It’s a narrative memoir, and to be honest, I’m just not all gung-ho about memoirs.  However, I have to read this for my Fiction Writing Class – which our Professor is having us write a non-fiction piece.  Backwards, but hey, it’s only one and it’s good practice to be a well-rounded writer.  I can’t really complain.  After that I have two others books to review, and honestly I can’t wait till summer when I get a reprieve from school and can read to my wicked hearts content.

There are rare occasions when I do get a reprieve to actually enjoy a bit of life.  Last weekend Brian, my brother, my friend Reyna and I met up with some others at the South Florida Renaissance Festival located at Quiet Waters Park.  Brian and I go every year.  There are a few staples – such as Brian always needs his chocolate covered bacon drizzled in caramel (or a heart attack waiting to happen) and I usually get some sort of hair piece because I love fun things for my hair.  We also like to check out new vendors, watch shows, and try different foods that we can find.  This year, I wandered in a human – and walked out a Fox Demon – horns, tails, and gypsy sarong included.  I looked absolutely adorable – if I do say so myself.  I also found a wicked leather journal for only $25 bucks.  It’s gorgeous and I have no idea what I want to write in it!  It’s so pretty that I don’t want to ruin it with my lackluster, chicken scratch hand writing – yet it calls to me!  Write in me! I really, really want to, but I want it to be something worth writing.  I’ve got time – I’ll think on it.

I’m actually on spring break this week – at least from school.  Work still calls and one of my psych professor has decided she does not care that it’s spring break and given us an assignment anyways.  Thank you for that.  I also need to meet my parents midway between us to transport my grandfather down here to his condo.  No rest for the wicked.  See, I told you I’m busy!  I will, however, continue to post!  I will blog, and read, and write, and review – though I’m considering moving to wordpress – if I can figure out how to use it.  One step at a time.

Thirty and Fabulous!

Delayed post as my birthday was on Valentines Day.

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone out there!  Personally, I hate the holiday.  Even at work everything was pink, heart shaped, and sickeningly sweet.  It’s never been my favorite holiday, but then again I may be bias since I share my birthday with V-Day. That’s right, today is my birthday.  I have hit the big THIRTY!  Hazzuh!  It’s been a crazy, adventure filled first thirty years, and I can’t wait to see what this next decade brings me.  Hopefully a degree, a few babies running around the house to drive me mad, and happy memories to add to the ones I already have.  I actually called my twenties my terrible twenties because of all the tragedy.   I’m hoping that my thirties are terrific.

Last weekend my husband set it up for us to go down to the Hard Rock in Hollywood.  There were friends and family – even my parents showed up which was a surprise.  Not that they haven’t always been there, but they live four hours away and my mom told me they wouldn’t be able to make it. LIARS!  But it was a good lie, because it was a GREAT surprise.  We drank, gambled, and my husband even got us a room.  It was absolutely luxurious!  Not a bad way to start the decade at all.

ME AT 30!

So, what are my goals for this next chapter in my life? (In no particular order)
-Finish School.
-Become a better writer.
-Have a little imp or two.
-Publish a novel or two.
-Go someplace I’ve never been.

Those are the major ones anyways.  My goals for this week are to:
-Pass my Oceanography Test
-Pass my Math Test
-Review the short story for my Fiction Class
-Finish and review the book for I Read a Book Once.
-Find some time to sleep.

Yup, that sounds about right.  Work full time, go to school full time, sleep part time.  I am a very lucky woman.  I’m 30 and living fabulous.

Work Full Time, School Full Time, Sleep Part Time

The new semester starts and my blog posts go down.  Sorry about that my few and faithful readers, but school does come first. That’s not to say I’m happy about neglecting you.  I very much appreciate the people who read my blog, but the hours in the day are working against me at this point.  I’m still reading, writing, and having my brain boggled by all this information from school – most of which I’ll probably never use, but hey having a little bit of information on a little bit of everything is never a bad thing.  It can give me a starting point for research when I want to incorporate something into a story.

Four classes is a bit of a challenge.  I may go back to three next semester.  We’ll see how things work out.  I’m past the drop date, and I probably wouldn’t even if I still could.  Generally, once I start something, I want to finish it.  So long as I keep my GPA up, it’s all gravy.  So what if my brain explodes a little bit?  Maybe some new creative juices will slip from the cracks.  Besides, I like a good challenge every now and then.

Right now my current predicament has left my bank account hacked twice.  I’ve narrowed it down and I think I know who the culprit is that’s stealing the numbers of my cards. Almost a month ago we went someplace – I’ll refrain from saying where – and my account was hacked two days later.  My husband and I went to the same place about two days ago, and low and behold, our account is hacked again.  It may be a coincidence, but I think not.  I’m going to go back through my bank records and double check tonight.  If it is what I think it is, I’m going to give the bank a heads up and see if they can look into it.

I’m still reading and reviewing for I Read A Book Once, so if you haven’t been over to that site, make sure you check it out.  Jonathan and his band of merry reviewers are awesome people, and they give wonderful insight on the books they review.  There’s something for everyone.  Why are you still reading my blog?  I Read A Book Once will hold your interest better than I can with my random and sporadic thoughts.
